Paul Moore and The Kokanee Singers are promising a cozy, traditional Christmas concert when they perform in Armstrong and Vernon next week.

Founded and led by the Vernon-born operatic tenor, the Kokanee Singers were started in 2012 to fulfil Moore’s vision of creating an exciting vocal ensemble that would explore vocal technique, solo and choral music in many languages and styles.

The Kokanee Singers continue to grow, to learn and study vocal technique and musicality from the viewpoint of chorus singers and soloists as fits each singer’s goals, said Moore.

“The singers and I have had a great year together with many memorable performances and rehearsals. Our love of singing and of music has brought our voices out and made our harmonies so much sweeter,” he said. “I think I speak for the whole group when I say that we are looking forward to bringing that joy to our audience, as we celebrate family, singing and the cheerfulness of the Christmas season.”

The concerts will see Moore perform many numbers in tribute to his favourite tenors of the past as well as traditional carols such as Jesu Bambino, O Holy Night and Panis Angelica, as well as Ingemisco from the Verdi Requiem.

The Kokanee Singers, conducted by Moore and accompanied by pianist Mabel Thibault, who will be accompanist for the evening, will perform choral versions of many favourites and will also lead an audience sing along to make sure everyone has had their chance to sing by the time the night is done, said Moore.

Christmas with Paul Moore and The Kokanee Singers takes place Wednesday at the Armstrong Zion United Church Hall and Dec. 20 at All Saints Anglican Church in Vernon. Both start at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door and are $20 for adults and $10 for kids. More information is available at the Kokanee Singers Facebook page or at paulmoorevoice.com.
