Unicorn sightings and Guinness sales are about to go through the roof when The Irish Rovers make their way to Vernon just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
Icons of Irish music, the Rovers return to their old stompin’ grounds across Canada to celebrate 50 years of music in 2015.
Fresh off the boat from New Zealand, where they just completed their Farewell Tour to rave reviews, the lads arrive at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre March 9.
On the tour is original Rover George Millar, who will be joined by his cousin Ian Millar as well as fellow original Wilcil McDowell, Geoffrey Kelly, Morris Crum, Sean O’Driscoll, and Gerry O’Connor.
Founded in Toronto, The Irish Rovers first became known on American television in the 1960s.
As guests on The Tonight Show, The Smothers Brothers Show, Mike Douglas Show and The Dating Game (George Millar actually won the date), they gained experience before hosting the first of their own three television series, The Irish Rovers Show, in the ‘70s.
At that time, fans enjoyed their early hits such as Black Velvet Band, The Unicorn, Whisky on a Sunday and Wasn’t That A Party.
“I was just 16 when this all started and I have to say, it’s been a mighty journey,” said George Millar.
The Irish Rovers, 50 Years triple CD set will also be available at their concerts.
The CDs include their chart-toppers and significant songs from throughout their career, plus 22 new recordings.
“Different members have passed through our ranks over the years and all will be represented in this anthology,” said Millar.
