Victoria-based musicians team up for concert

Victoria-based musicians team up for a show at the Queen’s.

Ellisa Hartman and Maurice play the nightclub June 8 at 9:30 p.m.

Hartman, who earned a Vancouver Island Music Award nomination for song of the year, is a singer-songwriter establishing a reputation for unique voicing and quirky instrumental timing.

As part of the Island music awards handed out in June, she is part of the showcase performance during the Vancouver Island Music Business Conference happening simultaneously.

Maurice cut his teeth in small bars and community halls, intimate venues that allowed the members to perfect their songs about love, loss and the city around them.

Their songs caught the attention of producer David Foster in 2006 and the band recorded their first album, Young People with Faces, on his record label.

Their latest album, Big Country, is available as a free download on their website and showcases a fresh, bright sound.
