Wheat in the Barley performs at the Envision Twilight Concert Series at Fraser River Heritage Park on Friday, Aug.17 from 7 to 8 p.m.
This is Canadian roots music with a major make-over. The Wheat in the Barley pulls together a lot of great influences into one package: Celtic, Slavic, French Canadian, Yiddish, Cajun and more. With an impressive array of instruments at their command, the band puts on a show that’s as danceable as it is listenable.
“The Wheat in the Barley is an altogether superior ensemble,” said Gary Cristall, former Vancouver Folk Music Festival artistic director.
Wheat in the Barley is group founder Steve Gidora on guitar; Victor Smith on accordion, whistles, guitar, or just about anything; Mark Dowding on woodwinds; Nicole Scoffield on violin; Mickey Hovan on guitar and bass; and Ed Johnson on percussion.
The Art in the Park program continues with a variety of visual artists presenting their work each evening of Twilight.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket for a fun evening at the park. The Blackberry Kitchen and The Log Cabin Café are open. Envision Twilight Concerts are a community, free-by-donation series.
