Winter-spring 2017 Music On Sunday lineup in Qualicum Beach

The Old Schoolhouse Arts Centre has announced its winter-spring 2017 Music On Sunday series

The Old Schoolhouse Arts Centre has announced its winter-spring 2017 Music On Sunday series.

First up is the classical trio of Sarah Fryer (mezzo-soprano), Brenda Fedoruk (flute) and Shoko Inoue (piano) on Jan. 8, 2017. The program, entitled The Power and Passion of Song will include works by Heggie Corigliano, Helps, Faure and Andre Previn.

Then on Jan. 15 is classical duo Anna Levy and Rosemary O’Connor, both on piano. The program, entitled Symphonies for Two Pianos, will feature works by Brahms and Rachmaninoff.

On Jan. 22 is country fiddler Ivonne Hernandez with Tad Ruszel on guitar and mandolin. Hernandez was a special guest performer during the fall 2016 Music On Sunday series.

Classical pianist Bruce Vogt will be performing on Jan. 29. The program is called Beethoven and Debussy: Purgatory Mates and it will feature music from the two artists, as well as comedic and theatrical dialogue from Vogt.

Then on Feb. 5 is the Vince Mai Quartet with standards and original tunes. Mai will be accompanied by Ron Hadley on piano, Rick Kilburn on bass and John Lee on drums.

On Feb. 12 is jazz vocalist Maureen Washington with Ron Hadley on piano and John Hyde on bass.

Cookeilidh, a Celtic group, will be starting the St. Patrick’s Day festivities a bit early with a performance on Feb. 19.

The Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet from St. Petersburg, Russia will be returning for a special performance on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

Classical guitarist Alexander Dunn will be playing at the arts centre on Feb. 26.

Liam Hockley on clarinet, Ron Hadley on piano, Joey Smith on bass and guitar and Buff Allen on drums will be playing music from Brazil on March 5.

On March 12, classical pianist Barry Tan will be bringing a program of music from Australian composer Carl Vine as well as works by Schumann and Brahms.

Classical pianist Avan Yu will once again be performing at TOSH on March 19.

On March 26 is classical duo Stephanie Bell on flute and Clare Yuan on piano. The two Vancouver chamber musicians and teachers will be performing works by Schubert, Bach, Poulenc and Griffes. Yuan previously performed at TOSH with her husband Scott Meek in the fall 2016 Music On Sunday.

April 2 will feature work by baroque duo Soile Stratkauskas on baroque flute and Michael Jarvis on harpsichord. The program will include works by Bach, Handel, Telemann and Purcell.

The Chris Wallace Many Faces Quartet, a Toronto-based jazz group, will be accompanied by Jeff King on tenor saxophone, Adrean Farrugia on piano and Dan Fortin on bass on April 9.

On April 23 is jazz flutist of the Tom Keenlyside Quartet. Keenlyside will be accompanied by Ron Hadley on piano, Rick Kilburn on bass and Hans Verhoeven on drums.

The final concert of the winter-spring Music On Sunday series is classical duo Suzanne Snizek on flute and Yoomi Kim on piano on April 30. The program will include Faure’s Morceau de Concours, Caplet’s Reverie et Petite Valse and Debussy’s Syrinx.

All concerts are from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at TOSH (122 W. Fern Road, Qualicum Beach). Admission is $15 for members and $18 for non-members. People can plan ahead and check the floor plan for the concerts. For more information, visit www.theoldschoolhouse.org/MOSwint2017.html.
