A group of local writers is inviting the public to relax with a cuppa while they are serenaded with a story or poem at an upcoming event in downtown Vernon.
The free readings by local authors and poets takes place at the Cracked Pot Coffee Emporium (across from the Towne Cinema) Saturday Feb. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m.
“Take a break, kick back and enjoy this new and wonderful Saturday afternoon interlude,” said Patricia A. Donahue, one of the readers participating in the event.
Readers include: Pat Black, a columnist with The Morning Star, who writes on current events and issues pertaining to seniors. A constant learner, she is also a budding novelist.
Shawn L. Bird is a colourful author of young adult fiction as well as a poet and teacher from the Shuswap.
This summer she embarks on a new creative project bringing west to east; a week of writing classes mixed with maritime culture in northern New Brunswick.
Howard Brown is a popular open mic poet who interweaves his academic/philosophy background with his work in coal mines, oil fields, the navy, and trades/industrial electrician, to deliver poetry of a unique mix.
Donahue is an award-winning author and teacher who draws on her academic background to pen the Mighty Orion Trilogy.
An original Maritimer, she joins Bird in offering the Writers Cultural Immersion Week in northern New Brunswick in August.
