Year-end concerts continue

The strike at Vancouver Island University couldn’t stop first and second-year jazz band students from performing year-end concerts.

The students organized a concert at the Elks Hall in Courtenay and performed without a conductor. With the resolution of the strike, the students return to the Malaspina Theatre for their traditional year-end concerts at the university.

VIU’s concert choir will perform with the Cantabile choir today (April 26).

Wednesday’s show (April 27) features VIU’s  first and second year jazz big bands and two vocal jazz groups.

The VIU Wind Ensemble, trumpet choir and saxophone choir will perform Thursday (April 28).

“We’ve been holding end-of-semester concerts for about 25 years,” said music instructor Greg Bush.

All concerts take place 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $3; $2/students and available at the door.
