“I am so proud of our local graduating students who displayed such a great interest in Delta’s heritage through this scholarship,” said Mayor Lois Jackson. “We received quality submissions that show our heritage is in good hands in the future.”
The Heritage Commission also recognized the entry from Sarah Strukoff of Delta Secondary School with an honourable mention.
Her essay “The Westham Island Bridge” describes the importance of the Westham Island Bridge to her family and Delta’s heritage.
The Delta Heritage Commission Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating secondary school student in Delta to encourage students to display an interest in local or regional heritage through the development of an original piece of work.
The winner of the 2013 Heritage Commission Scholarship receives $750 towards post-secondary studies.
Jackson will present the first place award certificate to Antony Tsui at the July 15 regular meeting of council at 7 p.m. at Delta Municipal Hall.
