The Allan Brooks Nature Centre (ABNC) is looking to share the celebration of its seasonal grand opening with other groups and organizations in the Vernon area.
ABNC invites community-minded organizations to participate by having a table representing their group. The target audience is family/all ages, with an emphasis on hands-on activities or education.
“Our community as a whole is made stronger through cooperation and mutual support, and we view this as a good opportunity to foster working together today, and into the future,” said ABNC program coordinator Joanne Salé.
ABNC will also be highlighting a connection between nature and the arts at its grand opening.
“Allan Brooks himself was one of Canada’s most renowned artists specializing in birds and wildlife,” said Aaron Deans, ABNC executive director. “He is known as ‘Canada’s Audobon’ and we want to honour this part of his legacy.”
For the second year, ABNC will launch the local version of the Get2Know Program during the grand opening. The Get2Know contest is a national initiative that connects arts and nature. There will be hands-on activities, and prizes will be awarded.
As well, for the second year, finalists and winners from Our Kids Have Talent will perform live music during the grand opening.
“Hearing the talent and ingenuity of young local musicians was such a highlight last year, so we invited them back!” said Deans.
Guests and exhibitors will also be able to sign-up for Walk for Nature, an initiative by the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
In order to share in the celebration, ABNC is not charging a fee for having a booth at this outdoor event. If you’d like to take part, please contact Salé by Monday at 250-260-4227 or e-mail info@abnc.ca
