MATTAWA, ON – The Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada (CIF/IFC) is now accepting applications for the 2017 Prince of Wales Forest Leadership Award.
This is the third year of the award program – a UK-Canada partnership between the Prince of Wales’ Duchy of Cornwall and the Institute of Chartered Foresters in the UK, and CIFIFC in Canada, funded by TD Bank.
This prestigious award recognizes students and recent graduates who are actively engaged in forestry or natural resource management and who have a passion for the environment.
Award winners participate in an international forestry student exchange program each summer to gain valuable professional experience.
“It’s one thing to learn about forestry in the classroom and another to learn about it in person. In my internship at Lockhart Garratt I researched and contributed to long-term land use management, which was an amazing experience,” explained Sarah Townson, a 2016 award recipient from Canada who worked in the UK.
“Four recent graduates or students, two from Canada and two from the United Kingdom, are offered a range of interdisciplinary forestry and natural resource sector experience in policy, planning and field work in their host country,” said Dana Collins, executive director, CIF/IFC.
Award recipients receive a bursary of CAD $12,000 to cover expenses.
