Artisans showcase their craftsmanship

Okanagan Artisans Guild holds 37th annual show and sale, which features handcrafted wares — from jewellery to body-care products

From one-of-a-kind jewellery to hand-crafted furniture, the 37th Annual Okanagan Artisans Guild Show & Sale promises something for everyone.

This is the longest running show of its kind in the Okanagan, with all three ballrooms at the Vernon Lodge filled with high quality fine arts and crafts, showcasing work handcrafted by local artisans.

Artisan and show publicist Debbee Werner said visitors can expect to find a great variety of wares including pottery, glass, sculpture, jewellery, wood, paintings, furniture, weaving, baskets, felting, clothing, candles, body-care products, and more.

“The Okanagan Artisans Guild is committed to stewardship of the old crafts, and the artisans who are keeping them alive,” she said. “There is a demand for locally handmade products and the quality of our annual show is well-known.

“Using social networking as part of our promotion is helping us to reach a new audience, as well as stay connected with our already loyal supporters.”

The Okanagan Artisans Guild would like to congratulate the owners of Prestige Hotels & Resorts on their recent acquisition of Vernon Lodge (Vernon Atrium Hotel).

“It is a very comfortable venue for both the artisans and their visitors  —  the ballrooms lend the perfect backdrop to the exhibitors’ beautiful displays and artworks. The Vernon Lodge also provides fine wine and dining, a tavern, a coffee shop and accommodation for those who want to make an extra special affair out of visiting this exclusive show.”

Werner said a new feature to this year’s show is the free coat check the guild is providing for visitors’ convenience and comfort while shopping.  As well, a coffee and wine bar will also be open for customers in the foyer of the ballroom.

Visitors can enter to win the door prize of a gift card from Vernon Lodge, valued at $100, redeemable at BX Creek Bar & Grill, or Checkers.

The Okanagan Artisans Guild 37th Annual Show & Sale at Vernon Lodge takes place Friday from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Admission to the show is free.
