Beairsto elementary school students used their imaginations as they created costumes for the school’s sixth Wearable Art Parade.
On May 23, the students in Grades 4 to 7 showed off their creations to cheers and applause from the entire school as they walked the catwalk in costumes made from everything from tin cans to an empty dog food bag, with plenty of glitter glue thrown in for good measure.
Facilitated by teacher Rita Eng, the students were invited to create clothing and accessories out of recyclable materials, after which they named their design, chose a piece of music that reflects the character of their creation and created a catwalk routine to model their end product.
“Some recyclable materials this year included newspaper, pop cans, punctured basketballs, tissue paper and scraps of fabric,” said Eng. “The kids all had a lot of fun and were so enthusiastic.”
