Back for its second year, the 2016 Butter Tart Festival and Contest in Lumby promises to be bigger and better.
Hosted by the Lumby Public Market, the Aug. 27 festival is a celebration of the old-time goodness of this all-Canadian creation. Runny or firm, with raisins or nuts, these timeless treats never go out of style.
Organizer Donna Easto said this year’s theme is “Back to Basics, Celebrating Old-Time Goodness.”
“But because we know that butter tarts are all about adventures in deliciousness, the contest portion will have a non-traditional category too,” she said. “After all, one of last year’s most popular winners was made with white chocolate, brandy and pecans.
“Last year was our first event, and we learned a lot from the experience, especially that there must be a lot more vendors selling gorgeous, golden, magnificent butter tarts to the public. And, we’re working hard to make sure there will be.”
The Butter Tart Festival takes place Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lumby.
