Caring Klowns share laughter and joy

The Kalamalka Caring Klowns hold training workshop for volunteers interested in working as a therapy clown in the North Okanagan

Kalamalka Caring Klowns of Vernon are looking for caring and compassionate people who would like to become therapy clowns.

Therapeutic clowns visit in the hospital and nursing homes, as well as take part in community events. They volunteer their time to any group that is fundraising for medical purposes, such as the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Their mandate is, “to bring laughter and joy to those who are not feeling happy or those who may be feeling stressed.”

The KCK holds its annual two-day training workshop April 20 and 21 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital’s education room. Pre-registration is mandatory and participants will receive course material and a makeup kit, as well as much valuable information.

“It is a proven fact that laughter has both psychological and physiological benefits that aid in the feeling of well-being,” said Beverley Barling, with the non-profit organization.

To take part in the training workshop, please pre-register by calling Bubbles at 250-546-6396 (Armstrong), Munga at 250-549-1435 or Gizmo at 250-558-5923.
