Mount Washington wants you to save money this weekend and support the local foodbank at the same time.
The fabled Turkey Sale, where brand name ski and snowboard gear gets discounted down to irresistible prices, combines with the last Mile High Scenic Chairlift Rides before the winter snow arrives.
“With the unbelievable weather we’ve seen up here as of late, we decided to run the Eagle Chair for sightseeing this Saturday,” says Brent Curtain, spokesperson for Mount Washington. “Just bring a cash donation or non-perishable food item for the local food bank in exchange for a lift ticket to get up and see the amazing fall colours in the alpine.”
The Mile High Chairlift Rides run noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The Turkey Sale takes place at Altitude Sport and Gift and Mtn Tek and begins noon on Friday, October 5. The sale lasts until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.
“This is the best time to buy last season’s gear at blowout prices, plus you can save anywhere from 10-25 per cent on new gear for this winter,” Curtain adds.
The Mount Washington community is also celebrating this weekend. Tourism Mount Washington is hosting a Homeowners BBQ on Saturday evening at Fat Teddy’s Grill and a Pancake Breakfast at the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre on Sunday morning.
“We hope to see all members of the alpine community this weekend,” explains Sarah Nicholson, Manager for Tourism Mount Washington. “It’s the perfect time to prepare for the upcoming winter season.”
The stunning Vancouver Island Mountain Centre, which opened last December, will also be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. This is the perfect opportunity to check out the facility.
