When any one of the 14 candidates in the Queen Silver Star Excellence Program has to do any kind of public speaking, they have Vernon Toastmasters Club 1929 to thank for their ease in front of a microphone.
The 14 young women have been coached by club members Uta Van Ziffle and Jacqui Hughes as part of the Speech Craft component of the QSSEP. The club recently hosted this year’s candidates at its regular meeting.
“All 14 young ladies were in attendance and participated in all aspects of the evening, including table topics and speech presentations,” said Michael Van Ziffle, club vice-president of public relations. “Our club members evaluated and gave supportive suggestions.
“Many family members and guests were in attendance and enjoyed conversation and snacks during the break. Uta and Jacqui co-chaired the meeting, as they have been coaching the candidates and will be leading them in their upcoming speech contest.
The club meets Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express; new members and visitors welcome.
