Davison Orchards celebrates summer with free tours

The popular North Okanagan tourism destination is also equally popular with locals and appreciates its local customer base

Saturday marks the first day of summer and the Davison family is inviting young and old alike to get out and enjoy a free orchard tour.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring the family and experience the farm first-hand,” said Tamra Davison, marketing director at Davison Orchards.

The orchard is at an exciting stage as some crops like zucchini and snap peas are close to harvest while others are just poking out of the ground. The Johnny Popper Orchard Train takes you through the field while one of the farmers explains the farming process, stages of particular crops and the uniqueness of farming in Vernon.

“As a kick-off to summer, we are encouraging locals to join us on the farm and experience the activities and the great food we have to offer,” said Davison. “Locals are incredibly valuable to tourism in the Okanagan and our event offers ideas for their summer visitors while learning what makes Davison Orchards unique and sustainable.”

To add even more to the exciting day, Davison Orchards will offer specials in the market and back by popular demand, a strawberry shortcake and coffee special in the Deep Dish Café, a favourite café and coffee spot with locals and tourists alike. Strawberries are fresh and delicious this time of year and perfect in keeping with the summer theme.

“We have been farming on this property since 1933, and while we have a busy tourism season, we continue to have the generous support of our dedicated regulars. We truly appreciate our locals!”

Tours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, see the Web site at www.davisonorchards.ca
