Local dogs and their owners can help raise awareness of assistance dogs and benefit programs of Independent Living Vernon at the Second Annual Dogs for Independence Walk Oct. 16.
The day starts with breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. with the walk at individuals’ pace starting from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The walk takes place on the linear park path on 25th Avenue beginning at The People Place.
The registration fee is $20 per person and dog (on leash) with prizes for pledges raised. There are contests for the best-dressed dog on the day of the event, a chance to be in the 2013 ILV calendar. There is also a dog/owner lookalike contest (bring a photo of owner with dog) and a pet food drive with donations of dog food welcome. The event is sponsored by The Healthy Spot.
