Ease into winter with Chinese medicine and yoga

Registered acupuncturist Jenna Roze and yoga teacher Lisa Dumas join forces for a workshop

Chinese medicine meets yoga in an upcoming workshop at Arise Yoga Studio.

“Explore the transient energy of the seasons and find harmony in the cycle of changes when these two ancient arts come together to assist us with a smooth transition into the winter season,” said Jenna Roze, registered acupuncturist with Red Bird Acupuncture Clinic.

Roze will team up with yoga therapist Lisa Dumas, studio director of Arise Yoga, in the workshop, taking place Dec. 14 at the studio, with the goal of helping participants to be healthier and happier during the winter season.

“We’ll be centering the core of the day on the Chinese perspective of change and transition during the winter months,” said Roze, who adds that according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, each season is attuned to a particular element, internal organs, actions and emotions. “We are at our healthiest when we are aware of the changes around us and are able to adapt.”

She said winter is associated with the kidneys/the adrenals and the water element. She will focus on how to integrate these changes through exercise and nutrition, mental and emotional expression and spirituality.

“Lisa will guide us through an hour of  specific yoga poses and stretches to encourage flexibility and strength in our water element pathways.”

During savasana pose, Roze will stimulate an acupuncture point to balance the water element. The workshop ends with a 45-minute guided meditation to consolidate harmony within the body/mind.

The workshop runs Dec. 14 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is $70 per person; registration is required by calling 778-475-7616 or e-mail to info@redbirdacupuncture.ca
