Farm store opens Feb. 29

Leap day season opening for organic produce vendors at Earthwise Garden in Tsawwasssen.

The Earthwise Farm Store is opening early this year – on leap day.

Earthwise Society’s store for fresh local organic vegetables is holding its season opening with coffee and treats on Feb. 29 from 3-6 p.m. at 6400 3 Ave.

The garden’s early bumper crop of winter vegetables includes turnips, rainbow chard, Easter egg radishes, several varieties of kale, cabbages, lettuce, arugula and oriental vegetables.

The open house will also showcase Earthwise’s volunteer programs, the farm apprenticeship program for aspiring farmers, the corporate team building programs and the Organic Master Gardener program.

All revenues from farm sales support the educational and charitable programs of Earthwise Society.

The Earthwise Farm is an organic teaching farm that demonstrates growing techniques suitable for small-scale agriculture in the context of urban areas. The farm grows crops year round using hoop houses, cold frames and crop row covers.

The Earthwise offices are open Monday to Friday from 9:30 am until 4:30 pm and visitors are always welcome.

The Farm Store is open Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m. starting Feb. 29 and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting March 17.
