As All Hallow’s Eve is coming up this week, the Okanagan Humane Society would like to remind the public to keep their pets indoors as much as possible, especially during the children’s night of fun on Wednesday.
“The animals get very scared of the fire crackers and noises that occur and of course, every year we get numerous calls advising us that someone’s pet has run off,” said Marti Giroux, with the Okanagan Humane Society.
The society was formed in 1996 and is run by dedicated volunteers. Its purpose is to financially assist in the spaying and neutering of people’s pets.
The society urges pet owners to spay or neuter their pets — one un-spayed cat and their offspring can produce up to 420,000 kittens in seven years.
“Our many fundraising events allow us to assist people who cannot afford the full costs of spaying and neutering,” said Giroux. “We are also involved in humane education in the community.”
