The speeders have landed… and then rolled away. Around 20 of the little rail vehicles travelled the unused tracks from Port Alberni to Whiskey Creek and back Tuesday.
Members of the North American Railcar Operators Assoctiation (NARCOA) from as far away as Oregon, Idaho and California brought their speeders and joined the handful of local members for the pleasure cruise.
Local enthusiast Ken Fyfe hosted the group of 70 or so at his track-side Whiskey Creek property, full of antique machinery, cars, steam engines and assorted industrial relics.
“Without his help this wouldn’t be happening,” local NARCOA representative Gordon Grenon said of Fyfe. Together with just a few other local members they cleared the track to keep it usable.
The visiting riders, on the fourth annual trip, were thrilled with the route through the mountains, along Cameron Lake and over the trestle.
