Those dedicated to helping preserve Mission’s history were honoured Sunday afternoon as part of Heritage Week.

The Mission Community Heritage Commission’s annual awards recognized the contributions of Sharon Syrette and the Mission District Historical Society.

Syrette, given the special heritage achievement award, was singled out for her work documenting and preserving local history, and specifically for her efforts during Hatzic Elementary School’s centennial celebrations last year. She has also produced a book on the event.

The MDHS received the education and promotion of heritage honour in recognition of its 40 years of local work, which includes the formation of the museum, community archives and Heritage Places branches.

Mission Mayor Ted Adlem and MCHC chairperson Janis Schultz presented the awards at the Power House at Stave Falls.
