Horsey Ladies get ready to give back

The 17th Annual North Okanagan Horsey Ladies Banquet & Charity Auction has raised more than $57,000 over the years for local charities

The Horsey Ladies are at it again.

The 17th annual North Okanagan Horsey Ladies Banquet & Charity Auction is Nov. 14 at the Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club.

Over the years, this group of ladies has donated more than $57,000 to local charities.

“Seventeen years ago there was only a handful of gals meeting for a Christmas dinner and it has now grown to 130 horsey ladies in attendance,” said Nancy Roman, Horsey Ladies committee member.

The fundraising portion only started a few years back when the group decided to hold a silent and ticket auction with donated items, then all proceeds go to a local charity which the gals vote on that same evening.

“We never know who the money is going to. It’s the majority vote,” said Roman, who has been involved from the start.

The evening offers a Christmas turkey buffet, including vegetarian lasagne, salads and desserts. There is a cash bar, and an ATM machine on site.

And new this year, Spallumcheen is holding its own toy drive and has asked the Horsey Ladies that anyone who would like to donate a toy should bring it to the banquet, put their name on it, and be entered into a prize draw. Toys will go to a local youth group.

Tickets for the banquet are $30 and now only available at Country West Supply in Armstrong, as The Paddock Tack & Togs in Vernon and Touch A Texas in Salmon Arm have already sold out.
