It’s time for summer fun at the Vernon library

Toddlers, school-aged kids and teens are welcome to take part in the many fun programs at the library this summer

As school winds down, there is no reason for kids to be bored, thanks to the Summer Reading Club at all branches of the Okanagan Regional Library.

In Vernon, registration is now on and youth services librarian Stephanie Vollick recommends kids register as soon as possible.

“Last year our spots filled up very quickly,” she said. “Each program has separate registration. So take a look and think about what events you plan to attend. Students in Vernon schools should be receiving a handout in June with this schedule. Our theme is Up, Up, and Away!”

For ages six to eight the following are just a few of the events scheduled (parents must remain in the library): Angry Birds June 28; launch into summer with some carnival style games inspired by the Angry Birds video games. Bowl, ring toss and take aim. Make killer bookmarks and maybe borrow a book to use them in.

Magic Show July 3. Be amazed by magician Mike Norden.

BC Wildlife Presents: Birds! July 5, with live animals from the Kamloops zoo in the library.

For ages eight to 12, kids don’t need a parent present during the event but will not be monitored after the program so please arrange punctual transportation. Following are just a few of the programs for this age group: Flight School July 2 or July 4. Listen to tall tales about pilots and make an airplane craft.
