It’s time to go crazy for corn

Davison Orchards has a full roster of fun activities for the whole family Aug. 9 and 10

The harvest is in full swing and Davison Orchards is celebrating with a weekend that is all about corn.

“We have a great crop of sweet corn and want to invite the public to our farm to take advantage of the abundance,” said Kevin Shaw, produce manager and farmer at Davison Orchards in Vernon.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., the Davison girls will be demonstrating how to make salsa, how to prepare corn for the freezer, and some tricks of the trade for eating and preparing corn on the cob.

Davison Orchards is celebrating corn season by offering great discounts on corn accessories and gadgets in their market. The Deep Dish Café will be featuring a tomato bacon sandwich with corn on the cob as a side and also selling hot buttered corn fresh from the field.

“It doesn’t get any fresher than that,” said Shaw. “And the fun continues on Sunday with a corn-eating contest at 1 p.m.

“Kids and adults will race to see who can eat a cob of corn the fastest. The winner will receive some great prizes made and grown right here at our farm.”

As well, Davison Orchards will be running orchard tours, which give their visitors an opportunity to learn about farming in the Okanagan while also seeing where and how their food is grown. The tours run every day from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Davison Orchards is at 3111 Davison Rd., off Bella Vista Road. For more information, please call 250-549-3266 or see www.davisonorchards.ca
