Kalamalka Caring Klowns hold annual workshop

Therapeutic clowns offer support and laughter to people in need

Caring and compassionate are two of the qualities for anyone interested in volunteering as a therapy clown.

And if that describes you, and you have some time to give back, the North Okanagan’s well-known therapeutic clown organization could use your help.

Next weekend, the Kalamalka Caring Klowns will hold their annual workshop to train new therapy clowns.

Therapeutic clowns visit in the hospital and nursing homes as well as take part in various community events, and the group takes its  mission statement seriously: “Our work is to cheer people up, and help them laugh. We try to help them forget, momentarily, the unpleasant things in their lives.”

Beverly Barling —   whose Caring Klown name is Rainbow — said it’s about bringing laughter and joy to those who are not feeling happy or those who may be feeling stressed.

“It is a proven fact that laughter has both psychological and physiological benefits that aid in the feeling of well-being.”

The two-day workshop takes place April 23 and 24 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, in the education room.

Pre-registration is mandatory and the course cost includes numerous materials as well as a make-up kit, not to mention valuable information.

Anyone wishing to participate can pre-register by calling Bubbles at 250-546-6396 in Armstrong or Rainbow at 250-558-3576 in Vernon.

“Enhance your caring heart!”
