Affectionately referred to as “Sunday morning worship on a Wednesday afternoon,” Knox Presbyterian Church invites seniors to a special mid-week, old-fashioned style worship service in their Sanctuary.
“Many seniors struggle to make it to church on Sunday mornings,” said Rev. Teresa Charlton, minister at Knox. “The lack of suitable transportation on weekends is a big stumbling block for many, but issues around medication, the need for walkers and wheelchairs, and having a friend to sit with, prevent many from making the effort.”
So members of the Music & Worship Committee at Knox decided to do something about it.
Encouraging its own members to come and assist guests who will attend, Knox hopes to make this time of worship bring back some fond memories: singing old- style hymns, organ and piano duets, and even some fiddle music.
“We have been encouraging many of the local retirement facilities to bring their residents, but it is important also, to let the wider Vernon community know they are invited.”
For all the reasons you may not come to church, on Wednesday come to Knox.
“Bring an elderly parent, relative, family friend or neighbour,” said Charlton.
Worship begins at 2 p.m., followed by fellowship and refreshments. Please call 250-542-8613 for more details. Knox is just off Alexis Park Drive, at 3701-32nd. Ave.
