The sepia-coloured mural on the west wall of the Talk of the Town antiques building at 275 Fourth Street was funded by Joanne Wood of Talk of the Town, and painted by Williams Lake artist, Dwain Davis.
The mural is two-part, featuring a snapshot of Secwepemc culture, showing how the indigenous people of this area dried fish on the shores of Lac la Hache. This portion of the image was copied from an archival photograph and the other segment, which depicts a scene of trade and hospitality between First Nations people and early settlers, came from Davis’ imagination.
Wood’s vision was to dedicate a mural to the First Nations people who first occupied this land and to the pioneers who later followed.
