From his perch in the Flight Deck Control Room aboard Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Vancouver, Air Force Sergeant Ken Munroe of Ladysmith controls signal lights mounted on the hangar face to direct the landing of a CH-124 Sea King helicopter at sea off the Hawaiian Islands.  The flight deck co-ordinator and senior fireman, is also responsible for co-ordinating any required emergency response on the ship. Prior to joining the Canadian Forces in 1990, he was a plumber and served for a short time with the Ladysmith Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladysmith Coast Guard Auxiliary. HMCS Vancouver participated in an Under Sea Warfare Exercise with U.S. Navy submarines off the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean, Feb. 12 to 21.
