Spring is the perfect time to learn a new skill like making cheese in your own kitchen.
Naomi Fournier, artisan cheesemaker at Birdsong Farm 15 minutes east of Enderby, is teaching a series of afternoon cheese making workshops.
“I invite you to learn how to make delicious cheese and meet the baby goat kids,” said Fournier.
The first workshop, Feta and Fun, takes place April 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. In this workshop, you will learn how to make feta, paneer and queso blanco.
The next workshop, Yummy Yogurt, runs April 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. You will get to sample four flavours of plain yogurt and learn how to make them, plus learn how to make yogurt cheese and a variety of dips and spreads.
The third workshop in the series is Mozzarella and More, May 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. In this workshop, you will learn how to make easy mozzarella, squeak cheese (cheese curds), and traditional ricotta.
“Talk about the perfect combination for your next lasagna or pizza,” said Fournier.
And finally, the From Cow to Curd workshop is scheduled for June 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. You will learn how to make two lactic coagulated cheeses — fromage frais and English farmhouse cheese. You can also take a tour of the farm and try your hand at milking.
The workshops are $50 each.
