Have you been picking up exciting items at the antique shows, shops, and garage sales; or have you inherited a really interesting antique but are not quite sure what it is?

Then it might be a good idea to book your appointment for the Antique Appraisal Weekend to be held in Little Fort.

The event runs Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day at the Little Fort Community Hall.

Independent antiques appraiser Peter S. Blundell, has been invited back to Little Fort with his almost magical verbal Opinion-of-Value session to help you with these ‘oddities’, and to give you a value of what it might be worth if found for sale, or perhaps even for a donation to your favorite museum for a tax credit. All types of possibilities.

Blundell is coming from Vernon, B.C., and is an accredited art and antiques independent appraiser with the Canadian Professional Appraisers.

Blundell began his career in 1969 in the flea markets of Ontario, graduated to major shows in the East, and then had his own antique shop in Schomberg, Ontario for many years. Blundell has been appraising in the West since 1990 and has appeared on television and radio numerous times.

One of the organizers says, “This is such a learning experience for your knowledge of fine antiques and collectibles. Mr. Blundell is always giving out learning tips for you – one tip may be worth thousands of dollars.”

Blundell has many specialties including furniture (has written three books and one e-book) art, silver, china, porcelains, glass, bronzes, oil lamps, pocket watches, and collectibles.

If you are wishing to know more about one of your pieces of furniture, and it is just too big to carry, use your digital camera, take photos with good lighting (no flash), and if there is a drawer or loose piece, bring that, then Peter can assess the wood and where this item came from.

Cost of an appraisal is $35 plus tax for a 15-minute appointment – up to three items.

Blundell does NOT look at jewellery, coins, stamps, guns, wristwatches (but pocket watches are fine). Antiquities over 400 years old are generally not assessed at this forum.

To book an appointment for the Little Fort Antique Weekend: Call Pat at 250-672-5660 or Elsie at 250-677-4287.

If you wish Blundell to make a house call or have any other questions, call him in advance at 250-542-4540, or visit his web page at www.blundellartandantiques.com.

Remember “antiquing” is a very ‘green’ experience.  No wastage of ingredients has occurred in your today purchases. That was all done way back in time. Blundell’s motto – “Always consider old before new”.

A portion of all sales goes to the non-profit North Thompson Valley group for their Hospice House Project.
