Love takes readers on a journey

Dahlia Senft publishes book that is a journey of self-discovery

Dahlia Senft takes readers through a journey of self-discovery in her book, Love.

“At first, I thought, ‘who am I to write about love?’ Then I thought that everyone has to think and talk about love,” she said, holding the illustrated book that was published at Thanksgiving.

“I wrote the original story in half and hour, then it took a year-and-a-half to get it published. The original title was It is great to be me, but I have that here in the dedication. I say this book is from me, not by me, because it does come from me.”

Her main character, which is every reader, moves from self-absorbed love to learning to love others through awareness of each individual’s outer and inner beauty.

Senft, whose friends appreciate the personalized poems she writes for them, also writes short stories and has had her poetry published. She is planning another book to be titled Trust.

“To me, trust is a community-oriented emotion. People may have been hurt by that emotion but trusting other people is a big thing. I would say to anyone who wants to write, ‘Don’t give up. It does take some time for a book to come together.’”

She is pleased with the reaction to Love.

“People tell me they like it, that it’s easy to understand and they like the illustrations.”

Senft will be signing copies of Love Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Blenz on Anderson Way, Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Blenz in the new Nixon Wenger building, downtown Vernon, and Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Bean to Cup.

“I see this as a way to remember and honour the love that our veterans showed for us,” she said.
