Despite their disappointment that TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are unable to accept an invitation to join them for tea on July 17, Lumby area seniors will nonetheless be lifting a cuppa to wish the newlyweds a long and happy life together.
The tea, hosted by the volunteers of the Lumby Thrift Store is being held to honour the pioneers and seniors of the Village of Lumby, a scenic hamlet situated in British Columbia’s North Okanagan.
It was hoped that the Duke and Duchess’ itinerary might find them in B.C. and allow for a short visit to the community. But despite the absence of royalty, organizers of the event expect it will be a “royally” good time for all in attendance.
Among the teas and savouries available at the event will be a tea custom blended for the occasion by Tea Desire of Vernon. The aptly named “Duchess of Cambridge” is a traditional English Breakfast tea combined with ingredients found in the Lumby area.
