Summerland Middle School has received provincial funding to replace its dust collector.

Summerland Middle School has received provincial funding to replace its dust collector.

The present dust collection unit is too small for the machinery in the shop area.

Its replacement will be combined with ducting improvements.

The province contributed $219,300 for the work.

“These upgrades will greatly improve the air quality at Summerland Middle School,” said Dan Ashton, MLA for the riding of Penticton. “Our government is committed to providing safe, healthy learning environments and I am pleased that we are providing almost $220,000 for these improvements.”

This project was approved under the province’s Routine Capital Program. Projects were chosen based on need, priority, and supporting student learning.

Since 2002, the ministry has invested $4.2 billion in school buildings, including $2.2 billion in seismic upgrades.
