Motorcycle riders will gather in Summerland next month for a rally.
The inaugural Summerland Friday the 13th Motorcycle Rally will be held May 13. It is based on a similar event, held in Port Dover, Ont., every Friday the 13th.
“Since I moved to the Okanagan Valley in the Southern Interior of B.C., I realized that the area is motorcycle heaven,” said John Dorn, past president of the Summerland Legion. “Why not have an event to give riders an excuse for a run?”
Dorn said the Port Dover, Ont. event attracts more than 125,000 people.
Organizers do not know how many motorcycles and riders to expect, but in preparation for the event, they have asked for a road closure.
Verity Street, a short street adjacent to the Legion, will be closed that day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Those attending are asked to register online at www.ok13.ca or on Facebook on the Summerland Friday the 13th Motorcycle Rally page.
A poker run to area attractions will be organized in the afternoon. In the evening, the Legion will offer food, entertainment, parking and prizes.
Profits from the event will go to support veterans.
