Joan, from Alberta, and Dorothy, from Vancouver Island, say they have hunted together for several years. Earlier this month they returned to Saskum Lake, near North Barriere Lake, to once again pursue their passion for the outdoors and hunting.
In no time at all the pair had a roomy camp tent erected on their chosen camping spot; and when another camper who was in the area stopped by to say hello she was impressed with the outdoor camp.
Everything was set up, wood stove in place, beds ready, firewood brought in, and of course the coffee pot was perking.
Joan says she has hunted in many countries, and can competently hunt with bow and arrow or rifle.
When the visitor asked if the gals “..were waiting for their guys?”, the answer was “We don’t have guys, only ‘exes’, and we like it that way”.
Dorothy spent one of the days working in camp; she had to process the deer that she’d killed the previous day. She handled all the work connected to it by herself, and in no time had the task completed.
The ladies say their next hunt will be in Alberta; after that they don’t know where the pull of the hunt will be taking them next.
