Overwhelming response to seniors Cedric Literary Awards

More than 165 writing submissions from B.C. seniors will be judged

VICTORIA (June 15, 2015) – More than 165 writing submissions from B.C. seniors will be judged in the inaugural Cedric Literary Awards.

And, 12 of those submissions have come from Central and Northern Interior.

“The response to our Call for Submissions has far exceeded expectations, in both total number and quality of manuscripts received,” says Executive Director Veronica Osborn.  “Entries to this year’s Cedric Literary Awards range from single poems to full-length novels, and the care and enthusiasm shown by all participants has been truly inspirational.”

The Cedric Literary Awards program has been created specifically to attract unpublished BC English and French-speaking authors of fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry, and First Nations writers, 50 years of age or better.

While the 2015 submission deadline closed on May 1st, writers across the province will be able to participate again in 2016, when the writing competition will be offered nationally.

“Many participants are telling us that The Cedric Literary Awards is giving mature writers the chance to begin careers that have been a lifetime in the making,” awards founder Peter Dale says. “From Fort St. James to Langley, and from Nanoose to Pink Mountain, BC’s unpublished writers, poets and First Nations story tellers have entrusted us with their manuscripts, in the hope of having their work recognized and earning one of four $3,000 prizes.”

All of the manuscripts will go to the Selection Panel at the end of June 2015, and a shortlist will be announced at the end of September, with the eventual winners announced at a special awards gala in Vancouver on Nov. 10.
