Qualicum Beach adds electric vehicle to fleet.

QUALICUM BEACH — The Town of Qualicum Beach continued its drive to power up its electric fleet of vehicles this week with the announcement they have added a Nissan Leaf to their fleet.

The Nissan Leaf, supplied by Nissan Canada and Newcastle Nissan in Nanaimo, is the second 100 per cent electric vehicle to join the town’s fleet this year.

The 2011 Nissan Leaf has a range of 160 km per charge, no gas, no tailpipe and no emissions, which chief administrative officer Mark Brown says fits in perfectly to the town’s Energy and Emissions Management Plan.

Along with the Mitsubishi i-Miev, the Nissan Leaf will also replace a fossil fuel fleet vehicle.

As part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection Program and as a signatory to the Province of B.C. Climate Action Charter, the Town prepared a Corporate Climate Change Plan in 2007 which identified the Town’s greenhouse gas emissions.
