On May 16, the Greater Vernon Museum & Archives will be bustling with activity as it celebrates International Museum Day with an open house.
“This is a free community event with something for everyone,” said Denise Marsh, marketing and communications coordinator at the museum. “Children can participate in traditional crafts and games.
“Adults, and children, can choose from a selection of scheduled activities including presentations on the newly restored post office clock tower, a demonstration of the linotype printing press, guided tours of the archives, or artifact cataloguing with the museum’s registrar.”
You can also meet with museum curator Ron Candy, participate in the
“What Is It?” contest, speak with historical partners on site and view the new “History of the Vernon Court Houses” display. Other highlights include the Captain Shorts steam engine in operation, and a chance to admire the art work of Allan Brooks and other artists in the Allan Brooks Gallery
“Don’t forget to leave yourself some time to enjoy refreshments and have a peek in our gift shop and explore the museum on your own, as well,” said Marsh.
The May 16 open house runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Greater Vernon Museum & Archives is at 3009-32nd Ave.
