Vernon Christian School holds a Mexican Fiesta so Grade 9 students can make their mission trip

The Mexico Mission provides Vernon Christian School’s Grade 9 students a real-life  encounter.

This annual mission trip gathers together the school-based experiences that begin in the primary grades with serving and sharing in local missions, culminating in an out-of-country experience, facing poverty and families in need, first-hand.

“A lot of time and energy is required each year to meet the financial requirements of this trip,” said Corinne Remple, communications and development at VCS. “Each year VCS students pick apples and prepare stacks of pies. They scamper around selling a variety of products, from poinsettias to chocolates.

“This year the fundraising team is counting on local mission trip enthusiasts to  help support their fundraising efforts in a way that will benefit your stomach and your heart.”

To help students reach their goal, a Mexican fiesta fundraising dinner takes place Nov. 14, and Remple is encouraging everyone to think of it as more than a meal.

“Think of it as an opportunity to meet new friends while supporting an integral VCS program,” she said.

Tickets are $10, available at the school office or at www.vcs.ca (via Paypal).

The Mexican Fiesta Dinner takes place Nov. 14; doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 6 p.m. Entertainment and a dessert auction will add to the fun. In order to indulge your sweet tooth, your table will have to pool funds and bid on your favourite.

“All proceeds will support our students’ efforts to raise the money they require to travel to Mexico to build a home for a family in need, and all are welcome.”

Remple asks that anyone who would like to purchase a ticket to do so by Wednesday. For more information, call 250-545-7345 or visit www.vcs.ca.
