The second annual Birch & Lace Trashion Show takes place this Saturday, April 22, at the Rockford Restaurant at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
Hosted by Sara Sansom, the owner of the eco-conscious salon, the show is an Earth Month fundraiser that will raise money for the North Columbia Environmental Society and WaterAid Canada.
Participants design and create clothes using only re-purposed material that is destined for the garbage or recycling. That means designers can’t create garbage for the show — they must use stuff that’s already destined for the trash heap or recycling depot.
Last year’s show featured 14 creations made out a lace from old window coverings, plastic bags, cardboard, newspapers, egg cartons, VHS tapes, a burlap coffee sack, electrical cords and more.
Sarah Spurr was voted the winner for her creation, ‘The Last Mermaid.’
The Trashion Show takes place at Rockford on Saturday, Apr. 22, at 2 p.m. It will be outside or inside, depending on the weather. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. To enter, register at Birch & Lace by April 20.
