The Vernon & District Branch of the BC SPCA invites you to an animal-themed day of fun at its open house on May 25.
The event, presented by Hill’s Science Diet, takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Vernon & District SPCA, 4800 Haney Rd., Vernon.
Highlights of the open house include educational displays, shelter tours, a barbecue with refreshments, and a garage sale from noon to 4 p.m. In addition to a day of activities for the whole family on Saturday, the branch will promote the joy of pet guardianship over the weekend, May 24 and 25, with half-price adoption fees on all available cats, kittens and rabbits.
“We’re also asking members of the community to help animals in need by dropping off urgently needed items for the shelter,” said Lorie Chortyk, general manager of community relations for the BC SPCA. “Wish list items include cans of Hill’s brand wet cat and dog food, red or black KONG dog toys, cat wand or dancer toys, watering cans, CD players with detachable speakers and patio umbrellas or shade gazebos (to help shade the dogs when they are playing outside during the summer) if anyone in the community is able to help with that need.”
Chortyk says the open house is an opportunity for people to meet the animals available for adoption and to have fun learning more about how to help animals in the community.
“We are really excited to continue our ongoing partnership with the BC SPCA for the Annual Open House series,” said Brian Howard, general manager for Hill’s Canada. “Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love partnership program with the BC SPCA is a natural extension of our mission: To help enrich and lengthen the special relationships between people and their pets.”
Chortyk said the BC SPCA is extremely grateful to Hill’s for its continuing support.
“Hill’s is a champion of homeless animals, not only through their sponsorship of our Open House series, but in their ongoing support of the dogs and cats in our care,” she said.
Hill’s donates free dry food for all dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in BC SPCA branches across the province to ensure that the animals receive a high quality and consistent pet food.
The BC SPCA adopts more than 16,000 animals each year through its 36 branches. All animals adopted are vet-checked, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and assessed for temperament. For more information, visit spca.bc.ca.
The BC SPCA’s mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia and is a not-for-profit organization reliant on donations from the public.
