Dancers of all ages have started to do-si-do as the Vernon square dance club starts its fall season.
The club is accepting new dancers of all ages for its beginner dance classes.
“Everyone moves around the square so each person gets to dance with many different people during each dance,” said Darlene Poetker, with the club. “There is no dress code, just come as you are. We welcome all of you.”
Nick Neufeld is in his 20s, and he’s enjoying the chance to get out on the dance floor.
“I remember taking square dance classes in high school, and really enjoyed it, so I wanted to check it out,” he said.
Dancers from throughout the Okanagan attended the club’s recent kick-off dance, with guest caller Dustin McGifford of Kelowna, round dance cuer Wendy Winterhalder of Enderby and round dance facilitator Regine Anderson of Penticton.
“What a great dance to start the year, shaking off the rust and meeting friends old and new,” said Poetker.
She said anyone who hasn’t attended a lesson yet this year is welcome to check out the classes — first class is free.
“If you wish you knew how to dance, want to meet new friends, get some exercise and challenge your brain, then this just might be the answer for you.
Classes run Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Halina Centre, located at the back of the Vernon Recreation Centre.
“There is no partner required, and you still have time to join in on the fun,” said Poetker. “Widows and widowers, please join us. Young adults — bring your friends and enjoy some good, clean fun.
“Are you ready to re-invent yourselves? New to the area? Then please join us and have fun getting involved in your amazing community.”
If you’re an experienced dancer, the club meets Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church.
