Students at Giant’s Head School received prizes for railway safety posters.
The B.C. Safety Authority and the railway sponsored a railway safety contest earlier this year. Students submitted 180 poster designs.
“We are pleased with the number of entries and are confident that the lessons learned by students participating in the poster contest will help keep them safe around railway tracks,” said Eric Samuelson, BCSA’s railway provincial safety manager.
“It is important that children are made aware of the hazards around railway tracks. Hopefully, they will share this message with other members of their family.”
The Kettle Valley Steam Railway has 16 kilometres of track.
The British Columbia Safety Authority promotes the safe installation and use of technical equipment.
It is a not-for-profit organization.
In the Kindergarten to Grade 3 category, Kai Reid in Grade 3 won first prize, Elliott Birds in Kindergarten took second, Jessie Puch in Grade 2 took third and Addison Knowlton in Grade 1 was given an honourable mention.
Among Grade 4 and 5 students, Crystal Nichvaladoff in Grade 5 took first place, Matthew Smith in Grade 4 received second and Karrah Rolfsema in Grade 4 received third.
