Summerland is now using water from its reservoirs for irrigation as Thirsk Dam stopped spilling near the beginning of this month.
According to staff at the municipal water department, the dam stopped spilling July 4 at 8 a.m.
In a contest to guess the date the dam would stop spilling, Lloyd Westby guessed July 3, 7:30 p.m.
The third annual Thirsk Dam Stops Spilling contest was held in conjunction with Earth Week, April 22 to 27.
Earth Week events were sponsored by the Summerland Climate Action Committee, Summerland Community Arts Council, Summerland Community Cultural Development Committee, Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society, Summerland Environmental Science Group, Summerland Library, Summerland Merchants Group, Friends of Summerland Ornamental Gardens, Grasslands Nursery and District of Summerland.
