Two grants given locally

Shabir Amarshi, vice-president of community business for Vancouver City Savings Credit Union, presented a community project grant cheque to Sherry Edmunds-Flett and Glen Flett of the LINC Society, Jan. 26. The grant will be used in the District of Mission Soapbox organic community garden that LINC manages, located north of the Leisure Centre.

Mission Community Services Society and Long-term Inmates Now in the Community (LINC) are each receiving a $10,000 grant from Vancity for local projects.Mission Community Services will use the funding for Cultivating a Food Future for Mission, a plan to strengthen food security and sustainable agriculture initiatives, while LINC’s project is called Grounded in the Ground.Grants from Vancity are given out three times a year. This last round of grants, worth $144,650, benefited 15 organizations in Richmond, Surrey and the Fraser Valley.Information for non-profit groups, including how to apply for future community project grants, can be found at www.vancity.com/grants.
