Understanding the process of recovery

An open house Nov. 19 will explain some of the options open to people in the North Okanagan who are struggling with addiction

For people struggling with addiction, knowing what services are available can be the first step towards recovery.

An open house tonight will provide information and let people know what treatment options are available in the community.

“The focus will be on letting the community know what substance use services are available in Vernon and/or the province,” said Betty Keding, substance use team leader for the North Okanagan for Community Integrated Health Services, Interior Health. “We will also talk about what can be helpful for recovery for both families and individuals.

“Our experience is that many times community members who all of a sudden require some substance use services struggle with knowing what services are available, appropriate, helpful and who to talk to.”

It’s National Addictions Awareness Week, and everyone is welcome to the open house, today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Vernon Health Unit, 1440-14th Ave., main floor clinic room. The event is free, but as seating is limited you are asked to RSVP to Lory or Emelia at 250-549-5737.
