Super Predators of the Ice Age is the topic in two presentations by Dr. Robert Young at the Greater Vernon Museum & Archives Nov. 15.
The first presentation, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., is family-oriented with children 10 and up welcome. The second, a more academic presentation on the same topic, will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Young, UBC Okanagan associate professor from the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, has spent a good deal of his career working on Ice Age paleontology projects and is fascinated by the extraordinary wildlife of the time.
“Most enthralling were the Super Predators — an assemblage of predators so large that we would have difficulty dealing with them today, if they had survived the extinction,” he said.
Young encourages everyone to bring their cameras and have their photo taken with the replica skulls he’ll have on hand. There will also be time following both presentations for questions.
