Which book should win the 2017 Canadian Reads Program

If you listen to CBC radio at all, you’ll have heard recently them talking about books

If you listen to CBC radio at all, you’ll likely have heard them talking about books lately.

This past week (March 27-30), they’ve been deciding which of five particular books deserves to be named the winner in the 2017 Canada Reads program.

Five panelists – one for each book – argue their case as to why their book should be chosen the winner.

For those who have missed it, here are the five books:

* 15 Dogs, by Andre Alexis – What happens when the gods decide to give 15 dogs the power of language.

* The Break, by Karherena Vermette – How the violent attack of a woman affects a small community.

* The Right To Be Cold, by Sheila Watt-Cloutier – One woman’s story of protecting her culture, the Arctic and the whole planet.

* Company Town, by Madeline Ashby – Life on an oil rig off the coast of Newfoundland… set in an interesting and complex future world.

* Nostalgia, by M.G. Vassanji – What might life be like in a future world where eternal life is possible, and identities can be chosen.

Any, or all, of these books are worth borrowing from the Barriere Library.
